Gemprint™ is the computerized identification system for diamonds. Like a fingerprint, every diamond has a unique visual signature. No two diamonds are alike. Gemprint™ utilizes a low intensity laser to capture a diamond's unique 'sparkle pattern'. A computer then scans and captures the image, or 'fingerprint', and downloads this image along with relevant information about the diamond to the Gemprint International Database. This enables subsequent tracking and/or verification of the stone. A Gemprint™ cannot be detected or erased, unlike laser inscription.

The Gemprint technology is based on the principle that no two gemstones are exactly alike. The original Gemprint™ instrument was a stand-alone device that produced a Polaroid photo of the diamond's 'sparkle pattern' as generated by laser. Today, Gemprint™ is a fully computerized system that captures and stores this 'brilliance' electronically using the latest laser technology and an interactive scanning instrument.

Despite its complex process, millions of dollars worth of stolen diamonds have been identified and returned to their rightful owners. Gemprint™ has been accepted in courts of law as irrefutable evidence insuring convictions and is the world's only scientific non-invasive method of identifying diamonds. The FBI currently uses Gemprint™. At present, more than $2 Billion dollars worth of diamonds have been Gemprinted, including the Hope Diamond and rare gemstones from America's largest museums.

Gemprint™ offers consumers insurance discounts from more than 30 insurance companies, a court accepted means of proving ownership and the ability to verify stone authenticity with absolute confidence should they ever need to leave their diamond to be repaired, cleaned or reset.
