Platinum is the
strongest of the precious
metals used for fine jewelry. Whereas gold will eventually
wear away with if scratched or nicked often enough, platinum will
scratch, but will not wear away. It is the most expensive of the precious
metals because of its
durability and its
density,
which is approximately
twice that of gold.
Over years of wear, your platinum jewelry may develop a
patina.
This is a natural phenomenon and is sometimes preferred over the original
shine of platinum. If you prefer the shine, though, a jeweler can
polish your jewelry or you can buff your jewelry with a soft white
cloth.
